Introduction
In its co-operation
with organizations of the UN family the International Centre for
Scientific and Technical Information has for many years treated
as a major priority team-work with UNEP
and Infoterra,
UNEP’s Global environmental information network. Details
on the history of our bilateral relations and forms of co-operation
read here. Starting from mid 90-ies ICSTI is operating
as a Regional Service Centre for the Infoterra system, covering
the region of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). In
2000 ICSTI and UNEP renewed a Memorandum of Understanding that
provides the framework for bilateral relations and specifies a
work plan for the period 2000-2001.
The
major objectives of ICSTI activities in the capacity of Infoterra
RSC can be identified as follows:
- to assist
environmental information access and exchange in the region,
- to catalyse
partnership building between different organizations in environment
related projects,
- to support
two-way communications between the national focal points in
the region and Infoterra head-quarters in Nairobi and the progress
of Infoterra reform in the region,
- to facilitate
initiation and implementation of multilateral environmental
projects.
Additional
information on ICSTI activities as Infoterra RSC can be found
on other pages of this site.
