STN International (The Scientific & Technical Information Network) is the world’s premier online service offering access to bibliographic, factual and full-text databases in science and technology. STN’s product palette encompasses more than 210 databases with approx. 350 million documents, among them the world’s largest and most important patent databases as well as subject-related business databases. STN International is jointly operated by

-	FIZ Karlsruhe, Germany;
-	Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), Columbus, OH, USA; and the
-	Japan Science and Technology Corporation (JST), Tokyo.

In accordance with the agreement between ICSTI and FIZ Karlsruhe the STN Training Center was established at the ICSTI. Main activities of STN Training Center include:
- organizing of information meetings and presentations of STN databases and services in Russia, - training of users to methods of online searching in STN databases,
- providing of information services on the basis of online searches in STN databases by requests of customers,
- assistance to the Russian organizations in online access to STN databases, rendering of the consultations to online customers.

In cooperation of ICSTI with FIZ Karlsruhe the seven new STN Training Centers were established in other cities of Russia including St.Petersburg, Chelyabinsk, Irkutsk, Krasnodar, Perm, Tomsk and Yaroslavl. In frame of this cooperation ICSTI is a coordinator of activities of regional STN Training Centers in promotion of STN services in Russia.
