In 1990 ICSTI introduced the status of "associated partnership" allowing companies and organizations to join ICSTI to implement mutually beneficial long-term projects. Associated partnership was approved as an alternative form of co-operation within ICSTI framework at the 40th sitting of the CPR.
In accordance with the Regulations, the status of an associated partner is granted to national or international organizations interested in long-term relations with ICSTI under a special agreement approved by the CPR.
Currently 30-35 companies, representing Europe, Asia and America, are enjoying such a status. Initially companies specializing in information products and services prevailed as ICSTI associated partners. As ICSTI diversified its activities, taking in support services to small and medium enterprises, as well as transfer of technologies, the family of associated partners grew and included industrial, trade and financial companies. By 2004 over 100 companies have successfully co-operated with ICSTI in this capacity. It is worth noting such partners, as BULL (France), FAXON (USA), INFORMIX (USA/Germany), KANEMATSU (Japan), Korean Institute of Scientific and Technical Information (R. of Korea), GOLDSTAR (R. of Korea), FIZ CHEMIE BERLIN (Germany), FIZ KARLSRUHE (Germany) and many more.
Co-operation projects with associated partners encompass a diverse subject range. Based on the past experience, we can specify several types of co-operation, which include but are not limited to the following:
- joint development of information products and their marketing in Russia and other countries; - information and other assistance in managing trade and agency contracts; - business incubation, i.e. comprehensive services to companies interested in entering local markets of RF/CIS and other ICSTI member states; - representation of a company's interests in particular projects and/or regions.
Usually projects with associated partners combine several types of work mentioned above. ICSTI services based on advanced information technologies are currently enjoying a growing popularity among associated partners.
