The International Centre for Scientific and Technical Information is an International organization, set up on February 27th, 1969 under the provisions of an Intergovernmental Agreement on the Establishment of the International Centre for Scientific and Technical Information.
As of 2008 ICSTI comprises 22 member states.
The states, who have signed or acceded to the Agreement on the Establishment of the International Centre for Scientific and Technical Information of February 27, 1969, are fully-fledged permanent members of ICSTI
Admission to ICSTI is open to all states, who accept the principles of the above Agreement and ICSTI Statute. New members are admitted by unanimous consent of all member states.
In 1990 ICSTI introduced the status of an associated partner, which allows companies and organizations to join ICSTI in this capacity and implement mutually beneficial long-term projects.
The main objective of ICSTI is to provide information, analytical, consultative and organizational support to international cooperation in fields of science, technologies and business.
In accordance with the provisions of its Statute ICSTI carries out its tasks in conjunction with interested national information bodies, scientists and experts from member states and other countries under contracts and agreements on cooperation.
Since 1996 ICSTI implements a grant programme, supporting R&D activities, publishing projects, organization of events, etc. carried out by ICSTI member states within the framework of ICSTI mandate. ICSTI supreme governing body is the Committee of Plenipotentiary Representatives (CPR), consisting of Plenipotentiary Representatives appointed by Governments of respective ICSTI member states. ICSTI day to day activities are managed by the Director and his deputies.
ICSTI Director and deputies are appointed by the CPR: in the case of the Director - upon nomination of the country of location of ICSTI headquarters, in the case of the deputies - upon nomination of ICSTI member states.
In their work the Director and his deputies are guided by the Agreement, ICSTI Statute and decisions of the CPR. The Director is responsible for ICSTI activities and accountable to the CPR.
Today over 150 specialists are working in ICSTI headquarters in Moscow. All in all during 40 years of ICSTI existence the title "ICSTI staff member" has marked personal biographies of more than 2,500 people.
Many of our colleagues are still successfully working today in national information centres or information companies in Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Czech Republic, Cuba, Vietnam and other parts of the world.
